stadium history
Opened in 1956, Scottsdale Stadium quickly became a cornerstone of the Cactus League, hosting legendary teams like the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, and Chicago Cubs. After extensive planning, the stadium underwent a major renovation, reopening on March 12, 1992, with a new design by the creators of Camden Yards in Baltimore. Since 1984, it has been home to the San Francisco Giants for their spring training season.
The Stadium blends historical charm with modern design, featuring turn-of-the-century lamps, framed antique baseball gloves, and sidewalk bricks shaped like home plates. Significant renovations in 2005 introduced a new team store, expanded clubhouse, baseball training and treatment rooms, a batting tunnel, a centerfield entrance, the Charro Pavilion, and additional practice fields to the east, enhancing the venue’s functionality and appeal.

The fields at Scottsdale Stadium were carefully constructed to provide exceptional playing conditions in any weather for the world’s best athletes. All fields are sand-based hybrid bermudagrass and over seeded in winter with perennial ryegrass.
Our goal is to create a memorable field experience as our dedicated team of grounds professionals provide the highest quality product whether it’s preparing for a spring training game, college championship, or the unique social event.
